Child Care Center Director

Discovery Playtown is seeking an experienced child care center director. We became licensed in 2019 and have experienced rapid growth. We are now searching for a director to succeed our owner who has held the position until now to oversee our continued growth and Early Achievers certification. The ideal candidate will share our philosophy that early childhood is a time when children learn best through play and hands-on experiences, in addition to possessing:

  • Strong leadership and problem-solving skills
  • Proven background in understanding, forecasting, and achieving revenue and expense goals for the center
  • Ability to motivate and inspire staff to follow schedules, policies and rules consistently
  • Hands-on approach to identifying and executing on developmental milestones for our children by implementing curriculum and other teaching materials and lesson plans, in coordination with the assistant director, program supervisor, and lead teachers
  • Knowledge of new WACs and Early Achievers requirements. You will take the lead on ensuring center compliance with all licensor regulations and will guide the center toward successful EA level approvals.

Other responsibilities include:

  • Recruiting, hiring, engaging and developing teachers and supporting staff
  • Managing attendance, tuition payments, DSHS enrollment and eligibility
  • Conduct marketing and outreach activities to generate a waiting list
  • Answer phone calls, emails and in-lobby queries from current and prospective families
  • Act as the primary point of contact for all company and center policies, programs and information
  • Conduct regular staff meetings and in-service days


  • A love for working with children and passion for teaching and social development
  • 4 years of lead teaching experience with children ages 12 months to 9 years old
  • 2 years of director or other management experience in a child care center or school
  • AA or BA degree in Education, Early Childhood Education, or related field
  • Budget and financial accountability with revenue generation experience preferred
  • Ability to lift in excess of 40 pounds
  • Current on all childcare requirements through DCYF: Portable background check, CPR, first aid, negative TB test, proof of MMR Vaccine, food handler’s permit
